Eid Mubarrak wishes to all from Bazaar Ramadan

Dear Bazaar Ramadan visitors,

From the crew of Bazaar Ramadan, we would like to wish all our readers/visitors a very blessed
Eid Mubarrak & may all your prayers, amal & deeds be heard & granted by the Al-Mighty.

Fasting and Dates: A Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr Story (Festival Time)

From Wikipidea:
Eid Mubarak (Arabic: عيد مبارك‎, Bengali: ঈদ মোবারক, Persian/Urdu: عید مُبارک) is a traditional Muslim greeting reserved for use on the festivals of Eid ul-Adha and Eid ul-Fitr. The phrase translates into English as "blessed festival", and can be paraphrased as "may you enjoy a blessed festival". Muslims wish each other Eid Mubarak after performing the Eid prayer.

This celebration continues until the end of the day for Eid ul-Fitr (or al-Fitr) and continues a further three days for Eid ul-Adha (or Al-Adha). However, in the social sense people usually celebrate that is the Eid ul-Fitr in the same length as Eid ul-Adha, such as family visits, and exchange greetings, such as "Eid Mubarak".

It is notable that saying these exact words is a cultural tradition influenced by deep CHAMONE roots of religion in it; however, it is not part of any religious obligations. Speakers of Arabic might also add "kul 'am wantum bikhair." Which means "[May] you be well every year"

Daily Hadith Day 19: Fasting 19th Ramadan 1430 (9th September 2009)

Narrated Abu Juhaifa (Radi-Allahu 'anhum):

The Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) made a bond of brotherhood
between Salman and Abu Ad-Darda.' Salman paid a visit to Abu Ad-Darda' and
found Um Ad-Darda' dressed in shabby clothes and asked her why she was in
that state. She replied, "Your brother Abu Ad-Darda' is not interested in
(the luxuries of) this world." In the meantime Abu Ad-Darda' came and
prepared a meal for Salman. Salman requested Abu Ad-Darda' to eat (with
him), but Abu Ad-Darda' said, "I am fasting." Salman said, "I am not going
to eat unless you eat." So, Abu Ad-Darda' ate(with Salman). When it was
night and (a part of the night passed), Abu Ad-Darda' got up (to offer the
night prayer), but Salman told him to sleep and Abu Ad-Darda' slept. After
sometime Abu Ad-Darda' again got up but Salman told him to sleep. When it
was the last hours of the night, Salman told him to get up then, and both
of them offered the prayer. Salman told Abu Ad-Darda', "Your Lord has a
right on you, your soul has a right on you, and your family has a right on
you; so you should give the rights of all those who has a right on you."
Abu Ad-Darda' came to the Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) and
narrated the whole story. The Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) said,
"Salman has spoken the truth."

Article Ramadan Bazaar - featured in Tourism Malaysia

This is a good article featured in Malaysia Footsteps blog (the official blog for Tourism Malaysia) and I'm reproducing this here with the permission of the author.
Original article can be found here: http://blog.tourism.gov.my/ramadan-bazaar/

Kueh seri muka, lepat pisang, jala emas, putu mayam and definitely the famous porridge, bubur lambuk.
Are some tasty delicacies available throughout the month of Ramadan.

The month of Ramadan does sound like it is a sombre month, it is also a celebration of many things. flippin' for murtabak

Observed by Muslims throughout the world, Ramadan is when Muslims abstain from eating, drinking and indulging in excessive or ill-natured conduct, from dawn to dusk. It teaches one patience, perseverance and reflections of spirituality.

The Ramadan month, too, brings with it much flavours.
In Malaysia, Ramadan is greeted with a riot of colourful and tasty foods.

Every state in Malaysia will have several designated places where stalls selling various delicacies and drinks for buka puasa (breaking of fast). These sites are commonly known as Bazaar Ramadan.

Spoilt for choice, visitors to the Bazaar will be surprised at the wide variety of foods on offer. Try these mouth-watering dishes

Usually, stalls open as early as 4 pm, when sellers start bringing in their wares. There are stalls selling fruits, drinks, foods and it will be a hive of activity with sellers arranging their foods, some grilling fish, with the smoke blowing gently in your eyes.

Try the specialty porridge, bubur lambuk (mix porridge), kueh jala emas (a form of sweet cake) found mainly in Kelantan, pulut panggang (grilled sticky rice with prawns in coconut mixture), ikan terubuk bakar (grilled fish), oh, and so much more!

The thirst-quenching ABC (air batu campur or syrupy ice shavings, with nuts, corn etc.), cincau (jellied drink), tasty soya bean drink, cooling sugar cane, are some of the selections of drinks sold at the bazaar. Yummy grilled fish

Sometimes, especially on a hungry stomach (!) it is difficult to make choices of what to eat and drink for buka puasa. One wants to buy everything. It is such a great temptation with so much wonderful foods!

The best part about Bazaar Ramadan is everyone takes the time to see the sights and breathe in the delicious, tempting smells. There are a lot of choices, and most everyone living nearby a Bazaar Ramadan takes the opportunity to visit the place.

The prices are affordable, and everyone can visit the bazaar. Just get ready for the thronging crowd, long queues, (sometimes) shouting frenzy and a truly local atmosphere. So many choices!

Bazaar Ramadan - great food, great ambience and so many great choices!

Here’s wishing Happy Ramadan, everyone!

Daily Hadith Day 10: Fasting 10th Ramadan 1430 (31st August 2009)

Narrated Anas (Radi-Allahu 'anhum):

Zaid bin Thabit said, "We took the Suhur with the Prophet (Sallallahu
'Alaihi Wa Sallam). Then he stood for the prayer." I asked, "What was the
interval between the Suhur and the Adhan?" He replied, "The interval was
sufficient to recite fifty verses of the Quran."

Daily Hadith Day 9: Fasting 9th Ramadan 1430 (30th August 2009)

Narrated Al-Bara (Radi-Allahu 'anhum):

It was the custom among the companions of Muhammad (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa
Sallam) that if any of them was fasting and the food was presented (for
breaking his fast), but he slept before eating, he would not eat that night
and the following day till sunset.

Qais bin Sirma-al-Ansari was fasting and came to his wife at the time of
Iftar (breaking one's fast) and asked her whether she had anything to eat.
She replied, "No, but I would go and bring some for you." He used to do
hard work during the day, so he was overwhelmed by sleep and slept. When
his wife came and saw him, she said, "Disappointment for you." When it was
midday on the following day, he fainted and the Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi
Wa Sallam) was informed about the whole matter and the following verses
were revealed: "You are permitted To go to your wives (for sexual relation)
At the night of fasting." So, they were overjoyed by it. And then Allah
also revealed: "And eat and drink Until the white thread Of dawn appears to
you Distinct from the black thread (of the night)." (2.187)

Daily Hadith Day 7: Fasting 7th Ramadan 1430 (28th August 2009)

Narrated 'Alqama (Radi-Allahu 'anhum):

While I was walking with 'Abdullah he said, "We were in the company of the
Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) and he said, 'He who can afford to
marry should marry, because it will help him refrain from looking at other
women, and save his private parts from looking at other women, and save his
private parts from committing illegal sexual relation; and he who cannot
afford to marry is advised to fast, as fasting will diminish his sexual
power."
